Durbar Tarunno,’ a major social and voluntary organisation of Bangladesh, has organised a programme with a difference in Chattogram by planting over 100 saplings on Tuesday afternoon. Keeping the theme, ‘Amar Jatne Amar Gachh’ (my tree under my care) in the forefront, the popular organisation planted the saplings in the CRB area of the port city under its ‘Amra Mali’ (we are gardeners) project. Following the programme, another session of the ongoing project has been completed.
Presided over by Muhammad Abu Abid, the founder of ‘Durbar Tarunno,’ the event was graced by Helal Akbar Chowdhury Babar, the innovator of the country’s lone corona prevention booth, as the Chief Guest. While speaking as the Chief Guest, Helal Akbar Chowdhury Babar said that trees are oxygen factories. Human beings, trees and animals all have gaseous relationship through which one another is benefited. There is no alternative to tree plantation for protecting the environment. As per experts, it is imperative to keep forest in 25 percent area of a country. But in comparison with the area of Bangladesh, forest exists in only 7.7 percent area, while in comparison with land area, forest exists in 14 percent area. The number of trees is negligible in comparison with industrial components and endless needs for maintaining environmental equilibrium. Each of us should come forward to take part in tree plantation in a planned manner. Through massive tree plantation and proper care of saplings, environmental equilibrium will be maintained. At the same time, it will assist in making the country self-reliant in fruits and forest resources. In the long run, it will play a favourable role in bringing economic prosperity of individuals and families thereby contributing towards overall development of the country. For the sake of the country’s economy and financial comfort in public life, each of us should plant at least two saplings every year and take their proper care.
Regarding the project, ‘Durbar Tarunno’ founder Muhammad Abu Abid said that trees are our best friends. Trees not only enhance natural beauty, but also resist decay of soil, prevents flooding and storm thereby protecting lives and resources. The role of trees is immense in weather control. Without trees, the earth would have been turned into a desert. Trees keep us alive by supplying oxygen. So, trees are called the forerunners of life. Presently, the number of afforestations is on the rise, but little attention is given towards care of saplings. We want to raise awareness in this regard by organising programmes like ‘Amra Mali’. More or less, all are aware about the necessity of trees, but proper care of the essential thing is not taken.
Besides, Rabiul Hasan, Hridoy Hossain Mollik, Md Quamrul Islam, H M Alauddin, Md Emdadul Huq Maruf, H A Mobarak, Hakimul Islam Sakib, Safayet Morshed, Mobarak Ullah, including central and Chattogram district leaders of ‘Durbar Tarunno’ were also present at the event.
